Onego Bio Launches “The Power of Trichoderma reesei” Series to Showcase Innovation, Scale, and Real-World Applications

Onego Bio, a food ingredient company producing egg protein through precision fermentation, announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a “no questions” letter regarding the company’s conclusion that its flagship product, marketed as Bioalbumen®, is Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) under its conditions of use in a wide range of food and beverage applications. 

Onego Bio will become the second tenant at Jefferson County’s Food and Beverage Innovation Campus. The proposed Jefferson site will be Onego Bio’s flagship manufacturing facility, dedicated to producing Bioalbumen®, a fermentation-derived egg protein powder. 

Onego Bio, a Finnish-U.S. food ingredient company, announced the submission of its Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) notification to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its non-animal ovalbumin, produced through precision fermentation using Trichoderma reesei, and branded as Bioalbumen®.

The 5,000-square-foot facility will serve as the company’s U.S. commercial headquarters, housing office space alongside a state-of-the-art test kitchen and cutting-edge quality lab facilities.

Onego Bio, the producer of Bioalbumen®, has been awarded $2 million in funding from the United States Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) Distributed Bioindustrial Manufacturing Program (DBIMP). The funding from this program supports the advancement of biomanufacturing infrastructure across the United States, strengthening the domestic supply of key materials and ingredients.
